Prostate Protect
Prostate Protect is a proprietary customized product developed by Dr. Liebowitz specifically for his male patients on testosterone replacement therapy. However, it is an excellent product for men of any age interested in promoting and maintaining optimal prostate health.
It includes two five alpha reductase inhibitors which gently balance the ratio between testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a very potent form of testosterone which is responsible for male hair loss as well as prostate enlargement. It is also a potent stimulator of libido, so it is important not to reduce it too much which is the main problem with the prescription drugs such as finasteride.
Saw Palmetto and Plant Sterols (the 5 alpha reductase blockers) have been shown to help maintain a healthy balance of the DHT and testosterone.
DIM is an aromatase inhibitor that blocks the conversion of testosterone into estrogen which tends to increase as men age. Estrogen is known to cause prostate enlargement as well as increasing sex hormone binding globulins (SHBG). Elevation in SHBG results in reduction of FREE Testosterone, which is the bio-available testosterone for cellular uptake. If Free testosterone declines, the man may experience all the signs of low testosterone despite having a “normal” testosterone level. This bit of important information is often overlooked by well-meaning practitioners, who are not well versed in male hormone physiology.
The product also contains selenium, lycopene (a tomato extract) and zinc which are important minerals known to enhance prostate cellular health and help prevent age-associated prostatic enlargement.
Breast Protect
Breast Protect is a proprietary customized product formulated by Dr. Liebowitz primarily for the women he is helping with post-menopausal hormone replacement.
It is a well-known fact that the incidence of breast cancer goes up in women after menopause whether they take hormones or not. Breast Protect was developed to help reduce this risk.
It contains three important nutrients that have been demonstrated to have an impact on estrogen metabolism that lowers the adverse stimulation to breast tissue that might lead to cancer.
Iodine was found to be extremely high in the diet of Japanese women from eating kelp and seaweed. Japanese women have the lowest incidence of breast cancer in the world if they remain on a traditional Japanese diet. If they move to the West and adopt the American diet, their incidence of breast cancer goes up to the level of American women.
Iodine is known to help convert estradiol into estriol, which is considered to be a “protective estrogen” in terms of breast cancer.
Additional benefits of Iodine are known to help prevent breast cysts, fibrocystic breasts and ovarian cyst occurrence.
Breast Protect has the amount of iodine in it that is found to be an average dietary daily intake of Japanese women in Japan. DIM is an extract of cruciferous vegetables, i.e. broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts etc. It has been shown to promote the breakdown of estradiol into “non harmful” metabolites.
Calcium D Glucarate is a nutrient that functions like a sponge in the gut. It absorbs excess estrogen metabolites excreted into the gut through the gall bladder, binding it up so it can’t be reabsorbed back into the blood, thus assuring that it is excreted in the stool. This mechanism results in preventing an excessive buildup of unwanted estrogen metabolites in the body.
Note, that this is NOT the same as a typical Calcium supplement that women take to help prevent osteoporosis (although thinking on this is changing and will be a topic in a future newsletter).
I have also added 5000 IU of vitamin D3 with K2 just to make supplement taking easier, by combining all of these essential supplements for women into one bottle.
By taking three capsules per day, women would be essentially covering their most important supplement needs.
Vitamin D3 is known to help support immune function, prevent depression, help with sugar metabolism, and also help maintain optimum bone density. K2 is added to enhance absorption of the D3.
I recommend these essential supplements to all women, especially those on hormone replacement after menopause to help reduce the risk of breast cancer.
Blessings, in Radiant Health
