Anti Ageing Secrets

We are all ageing. Time marches on. There is no way to stop the clock. But looking and acting old is optional.
Two of the most profound impacts on ageing are caused by what we eat, and what toxins we are exposed to. The four primary toxins are: S-N-A-C ‘s
S- ugar
N- icotine
A-lcohol
C-affeine

There are hundreds of other industrial toxins, such as heavy metals, that we are exposed to, but if we can control the four primary toxins we will be making a huge impact on how we age.

Sugar is the worst culprit. And, it is everywhere in our diets, even where it is least expected. It is not just sugar per se, but foods that have a high Glycemic Index. The glycemic index is a scale developed according to how high a particular food raises our blood sugar, not necessarily based on how much sugar is in the food. A food that raises the blood sugar a lot is a HIGH GLYCEMIC FOOD. And likewise a food that does not raise the blood sugar very much is a LOW GLYCEMIC FOOD. We remain much healthier, and we age much better by eating a Low Glycemic Diet. Lists of foods and their glycemic index are readily available on the Internet. Eating Low Glycemic is more in line with how our Paleolithic ancestors ate. We are genetically the same as Paleolithic man, yet the biggest difference in our diets is the amount of sugar and high glycemic food we ingest. This is directly responsible for a myriad of illnesses and accelerated ageing. High glycemic diets are diets that have a large percentage of total calories coming from carbohydrates such as grains, cereals, pasta, breads, all bakery items, tropical fruits, melons, juices and of course sugary foods and desserts. My patients say to me “Those are all the good things to eat”. It’s funny, but true. And that explains why we like to eat them and eat so much of it. It is the good stuff. But, it makes us sick and accelerates the ageing process.

Sugar raises Insulin. Insulin is a pro-inflammatory hormone. It lowers Cortisol. That is one reason why we love to eat, and eat sweet things when we are stressed. Stress causes cortisol to go up. When cortisol goes up we get the urge to eat sugary foods. Sugary foods (or High Glycemic Foods) raise Insulin, which helps lower Cortisol. It’s actually not as simple as that, but that ‘s the basics. When Cortisol is lowered, the body becomes more inflamed. Inflammation is the cause of every disease, from heart disease to cancer. So high glycemic diets and high insulin causes us to get sick. When we are ill and our immune systems are suppressed, we age much faster.

The keys to slowing the ageing process are to eat a Low Glycemic Diet, Avoid the Four Primary Toxins as much as possible, get enough sleep and rest, periodically cleanse and detoxify the body (a topic for another article), maintain good hydration with pure non-toxic water, get regular exercise using core strengthening techniques daily, and maintain all Hormones in balance.

In addition there are a number of technological aids to help slow the ageing process in our high tech world. We were designed in Paleolithic times. There are so many things our bodies are being exposed to today that we were never designed to handle. Our primitive detoxification pathways in the liver were never designed to handle the volume of toxic substances and pharmaceuticals that we ingest today. So our bodies need some help.

In addition to the advice above, I recommend supporting the body with a daily intake of good quality Anti-Oxidants. One I recommend is MAX GXL or MAX ONE.

I think it is also extremely helpful to get regular infusions of antioxidants at least once a month. I offer these infusions to my patients in my office. I call them anti-ageing infusions. They consist of high dose vitamin C, B-complex, magnesium, calcium and a bolus of Glutathione. I have written about Glutathione before. It is one of the most powerful anti-oxidants. It helps boost liver detoxification pathways. It is extremely unstable and cannot survive stomach acid, so therefore is useless as an oral supplement. It can be weakly obtained by transdermal cream or patch. So a regular intravenous infusion of glutathione is best. I also combine these infusions with an intravenous Ozone treatment. Ozone is a fantastic modality, commonly used in Europe, (not often available or approved in the U.S.), to up regulate the immune system and also promote clearance of toxins from the body. I offer these treatments to my patients as another aid in slowing the ageing process to prevent oxidation of tissues by free radicals. They can be combined with the vitamin infusion or taken on alternating sessions. I call these treatments ‘Anti-Ageing Infusions,’ and I am very proud to be able to offer these to my patients.

Another little trick to looking young is to take care of your skin. The pollutants and toxins in our air, water and food ravage our skin. Toxic pollution accelerates skin ageing. It is important to cleanse the skin well and regularly to remove toxic chemicals of our industrialized world from building up on the skin, clogging pores and preventing the skin from breathing and being adequately oxygenated. I recommend a fabulous skin cleanser from ELURE (). As the skin ages unwanted pigment can build up as a reaction to long-term toxic exposure.
